"WAP is the one platform where African countries continue to appear in the top five in our statistics," said BBC developer Gareth Owen. This is not unsurprising at all but also comes as an eye-opener into the potential of the mobile internet in Africa. While most of the twenty three countries (all being supporters of the &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_access" target="_blank"&gt;open access model&lt;/a&gt; ) have been very active in deliberations to fast-track this all-important project, a few haven't been so active. There are workshops in different sub-saharan countries being organized by &lt;a href="http://www.cipesa.org/"target="_blank"&gt;CIPESA&lt;/a&gt; herein which are very good. Rwanda has just had a pretty successful "National Dialogue" on EASSy, which brought together various stakeholders. The countries identified include Zambia, Malawi, Burundi and Botswana.
